Falken Ziex ZE-612 Review & Rating
- Dry and wet traction
- Cornering and handling
- Ride comfort
- Tread life
One of the prime reasons why the Falken Ziex ZE-612 tire has captured the fancy of so many performance car enthusiasts today, other than its good value, is that it is designed to not only be driven in year-round driving conditions, but it also satisfies the needs of more spirited drivers.
The Falken ZE 612 is ideal for use on numerous sport coupes and sedans like the Acura Integra, Chevy’s Impala, Cobalt and Malibu, Dodge Charger, Ford’s Edge, Fusion and Mustang, Honda’s Accord, CRV and Civic, Mazda’s 6, 3, CH-9 and CX-7, Nissan’s Altima and Sentra, and Toyota Camry among others.
The traction of the ZE-612 is something that will definitely improve your car’s performance. These tires are designed with a Hybrid Asymmetric Pattern Design, which basically means that their inside and outside treads are fully optimized for maximum traction on dry or wet pavement.
If you are wondering how these tires perform on wet road conditions then you will be pleased to know that High Angle Variable Cross Grooves and Four High Volume Circumferential Grooves combine to create more stability on wet road surfaces. It also improves hydroplane resistance.
In addition to the asymmetrical tread patterns, these tires also incorporate an Infinite Sipe Sequence which allows them to create dramatically increased traction on snow covered roads. The results are impressive for an all-season tire such as this.
Cornering – Steering
Cornering and steering are definitely a major concern when it comes to sports car drivers. This not only plays a major role in their safety, but also their performance on the track. What we found with the Falken ZE-612 is that this tire’s design inherently improves the steering capability of the car.
The cornering grip and all around handling of the Falken Ziex ZE-612 is a combination of its unique asymmetrical tread patterns and especially the larger shoulder blocks. The latter allows the tires to bite the road while the former creates enhanced grip.
The Falken Ziex ZE-612 is billed as an all season performance tire, which makes it unique for many sports car owners in the country. The problem, however, is that while the ZE-612 is exceptional when it comes to its grip on dry and wet surfaces, its traction on winter roads is about what you would expect. Sure, the added sipe design around the tread does provide decent performance in light snow, but not so much in heavy snow and ice. Then again, not many all-season tires do. If you’re looking for a superior winter driving tire, the Continental DWS would be a better choice.
Ride Comfort – Road Noise
It seems as if Falken has paid special attention to these tires when it comes to the comfort of the passengers in the car and the noise that the tires make while on the road. The cross grooves mentioned earlier play a major role in keeping the road noise to a minimum as well. The ride comfort is high enough and the road noise low enough to suit most any taste.
These tires, depending on their sizes, come with a UTQG rating of either 480-A-A or 360-A-A which means you can expect to get around 65,000 and 40,000 miles respectively. This is one bone that some drivers pick with these tires. This could be considered a bit on the low side, but when you factor in the lower price of these tires it all balances out.
You will be able to find this tire in H, V, and W-speed ratings, in addition to load index numbers ranging from 82 to 112. There are a variety of sizes to choose from, with the smallest being 14 inches and the largest being 19 inches.
The tire size determines the warranty, with certain tires getting a warranty of 65,000 miles and others coming with 45,000 miles.
