Product Overview

Pros:
  • Crisp steering response
  • Cornering grip and stability
  • Ride comfort
Cons:
  • Hard-pressed to find any real negatives
Bottom Line: 4.5 / 5

Continental has produced a rather innovative tire line. Catering to the environmentally conscious, the Continental PureContact purports that it uses EcoPlus Technology that will help save on fuel consumption and reduce CO2 emissions for a cleaner environment.

This new Grand Touring All-Season tire is designed as a replacement tire for luxury performance coupes, sedans, small SUV’s and crossovers. A new feature that may have other tire manufacturers scrambling for a similar convenience is the Tuned Performance indicators molded into the tires at various depths. Once the “S” is no longer visible, the tire will no longer perform well in snow, and when the “W” is no longer visible, it’s no longer as responsive in wet conditions. When all you have is a “D” for dry surfaces, it’s time to begin looking at replacing the tires.

Continental PureContact

Traction

Whether the roads are dry or wet, you can expect to find impressive traction on this tire. For us, we were most impressed with the wet handling performance. Continental has combined silica and unique polymers and Silane additives in the tread compound that dramatically increase grip on wet road surfaces. Dry and wet braking is also excellent. The vehicle will come to a quick stop despite a water saturated surface.

Cornering – Steering

When it comes to handling your vehicle, this is when you really begin to appreciate the technology applied to the PureContact tires. The tires performed very competitively in a race track setting, zipping around curves without losing traction. With high-speed durability and ride stability, they have excellent grip, giving the driver full control over steering and braking. They perform equally well on local streets and Interstate highways, without pulling or jittering.

Winter Handling

The Continental PureContact tires are well designed for winter weather conditions. The blocked tread pattern is siped to provide extra bite, with vertical ridges in the circumferential grooves to retain good traction and steering ability on ice and snow. With their anti-rolling technology, they are highly reliable on winter streets where the areas around stop-lights become slick from the constant braking and starting of vehicles.

Ride Comfort – Road Noise

Although fuel efficiency is one of its biggest selling points, giving the customer an extra half gallon of fuel economy with every fill up, the extreme comfort of the Continental PureContact tire is what gains the most avid fans. Even vehicles that are notorious for giving a choppy ride tend to smooth out noticeably after installing these shock-absorbent tires. They provide an extra layer of rubber to absorb the vibrations caused by the road surface, reducing noise and giving a cushioned, smooth feel to riding and handling.

Tread Life

Continental PureContactTread life on this model is another area where this tire excels. The tread compound and design is such that you can expect to get the 80,000 miles that Continental guarantees them for. We’ve also heard many drivers speak to getting more miles out of this tire than they expected.

Warranty

The warranty for the Pure Contact is six years or the first 70,000 miles. As a replacement tire, it gives half the mileage guarantee for the rear if the size is different than for the front. It has a uniformity warranty for the first year or 2/32″ of wear.

There is a workmanship and materials warranty, with a free replacement for the first year or 2/32″ of wear, then it is prorated until there is a remaining 2/32″ of depth. In addition, there is a manufacturer’s special warranty of sixty days free customer satisfaction trial.
